An assignment turned into a short film
**Before I mention anything about this project, please be noticed that it is a work in progress.
Inside story of turning an ordinary assignment into a short film
Most of the artists practice the basics almost everyday of their lives. I got this golden advice from my mentor, Steve Sevalle from mographmentor.com, while he was explaining us about the ball bounce assignment. The assignment has 2 clear instructions, it has to be a circular object and it has to bounce. We were free to be as creative as possible with the assignment.
Initially I wondering what creative could I do with a ball bounce. I embarked upon by looking for inspiration on internet as well as my own past works. While I was in the middle of my research, I came across a rejected animation piece from old works below.
Here is the aforementioned project
Suddenly, I realised why not use the same character and weave a story around him in the old Loony Toons style. A story where this character is bouncing, jumping and saving himself from objects crashing on him. A mammoth stone is terribly chasing him and he is running for his life, just like Road Runner does from Coyote :)
Screenplay is well thought through an my character design is already sorted. Now I find myself in gear 2 where I started working on my moodboard in order to chalk out what style works for the story.
After a decent research and moodboard preparation, I started sketching a few Ideas with pen and paper.
All my Motion Design career, I have worked on flat design vector artwork, but this time I wanted to try something organic and more life like. I wanted to try my hands on digital painting in photoshop. I started with the opening shot/ cover page and first scene. Luckily it turned out not that band, hahaha.
In order to get the feel of the actual shot, I decided to jump into animation. Normally I do not jump into animation this quick. But to get the feel of the film, I thought of putting things together.
Here is the progress so far.
